Job summary

Carleton College seeks a Director of IT Planning and Communication who will lead planning, web development, and communications strategies within ITS. This position supervises the WebPAC team and partners with Communications to manage Carleton's web presence.

The role requires strong leadership, long-term project management, and cross-department collaboration in a liberal arts setting. Salary ranges reflect experience and market factors, with a start range in the low six figures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
• Five or more years of full-time professional experience working in web technology.
• Two or more years of full-time professional leadership and supervisory experience.
• Experience managing employees and supporting their growth.
• Excellent interpersonal skill and ability to translate technology for varied user backgrounds.
• Excellent oral and written communication; ability to translate technology for diverse skill levels.
• Demonstrated expertise in project management and change management strategies.
• Good judgement in complex situations.
• Patience, flexibility, and persistence for Liberal Arts setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall direction and oversight for web development and infrastructure as well as ITS departmental approaches and processes for project intake and management.
• Supervise and mentor the WebPAC team; foster a collaborative, adaptable environment.
• Ensure web standards compliance, accessibility, responsive design, and robust infrastructure.
• Translate community needs into web project requirements, plans, and timelines.
• Manage a portfolio of technology projects with prioritization and regular reporting.
• Collaborate with Marketing Communications on daily web operations and site maintenance support.
• Provide strategic direction for Carleton's web presence and toolset with CTO and VP Communications.
• Co-lead campus-wide project management steering group and promote campus-wide project practices.
