Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Director of Industrial Development to plan and direct commercial development initiatives across railroad lines. You will collaborate with the Commercial team and various departments to identify growth opportunities, promote sites, respond to inquiries, and mentor staff.

The role requires strong communication, analytical, and project-management skills, with travel up to 70% at times. Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in railroad/economic development preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• At least five years of railroad or economic development or related industry marketing and/or sales experience preferred.
• At least 5 years of business development in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Attract, develop and facilitate new growth opportunities of rail-oriented industries along Genesee & Wyoming lines.
• Promote G&W sites for new build and expansion projects via meetings and solicitation.
• Respond to site search inquiries.
• Demonstrate expertise in industrial development concepts and practices.
• Plan work and accomplish goals with creativity and latitude.
• Provide strategic direction and mentor Industrial Development professionals.
• Establish relationships with EDCs, state agencies, landowners, brokers, developers.
• Keep department head informed of results and analyses.
• Assist staff engineer with track layout information.
• Maintain updated database of adjacent properties.
• Promote sites via media, website, LinkedIn.
• Onboard new customers for ID projects and expansions.
• Collaborate with departments and engage regional Sales early in projects.
• Develop proposals for new business opportunities and close deals.
• Perform reporting and analysis tasks.
• Promote and support the commercial agenda of the company.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders.
• Assist training of new staff.
• Manage other projects and duties as assigned.
