Job summary

The TJX Companies, Inc. in Framingham, MA seeks a Senior Industrial Engineer Leader to design labor standards and capacity models that optimize labor budgets and throughput across stores.

You will partner with operations, finance, supply chain, and store design to translate engineering rigor into measurable improvements in productivity and customer experience. You will lead in-store material handling system design and the evaluation of new technologies, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years in an engineering leadership capacity.
• 10+ years industrial engineering experience and/or distribution environment.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Deep knowledge of industrial engineering, preferably in a retail environment.
• Knowledge of IT systems used in time and motion studies.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal and project management skills.
• Knowledge of needs analysis, design, implementation and evaluation.
• Six Sigma and QC experience.
• Proficient in MS Office including databases.

Responsibilities

• Lead labor standards across in-store activities (receiving, replenishment, stocking, checkout, customer service, returns, freight flow, recovery, cleaning).
• Apply time study and regression-based modeling to build defensible standards.
• Govern standards with documentation, version control, and audits.
• Collaborate with Workforce Management for forecasting and budgeting alignment.
• Translate volume drivers into workload forecasts at store and task levels.
• Develop store capacity models for throughput across receiving, backroom, sales floor, and front-end operations.
• Identify productivity opportunities via process analysis and benchmarking.
• Lead productivity initiatives including process redesign and task elimination.
• Build business cases for productivity investments and measure savings.
• Serve as engineering voice in store prototype design and remodels.
• Ensure new/remodeled stores are engineered for efficiency, not just aesthetics.
• Develop backroom layouts and staging area designs that work across formats.
• Consult on ergonomics, sightlines, and task design to reduce fatigue and injuries.
• Review and approve engineering specs for new stores and major remodels.
• Own strategy and lifecycle planning for in-store material handling equipment.
• Evaluate new MHE and store automation technologies with ROI models.
• Establish equipment standards by format and volume tier.
• Collaborate with Safety and Facilities on equipment safety standards.
