Job summary

Metropolis is seeking a Senior Director of Indirect Tax to architect and scale our tax operations during rapid growth. You will own indirect tax strategy, system transformations, AI-driven analytics, and proactive risk management across sales/use tax, VAT/GST, and licensing.

You'll build a high-performing team, oversee filings across the US and Canada, and drive automation with tax engines like ONESOURCE and Vertex.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of indirect tax leadership experience in fast-growing tech, mobility, or marketplace companies.
• Proven track record building scalable indirect tax departments and automation.
• Expert knowledge of 50-state US sales/use tax and regulatory compliance, plus VAT/GST knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Build and mentor an indirect tax team of about 5 members for scale.
• Oversee preparation, review, and filing of indirect tax returns across states and Canada.
• Ensure accurate tax determinations, payments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee audits, notices, assessments, and disputes with operations and compliance.
• Collaborate with Legal and external advisors on significant disputes.
• Establish controls, policies, and risk assessment across jurisdictions.
• Drive automation and standardization of tax processes for accuracy and efficiency.
• Leverage AI data tools to create dashboards monitoring compliance performance.
• Lead implementation of tax tech, including ONESOURCE, Vertex, and ERP integrations.
