Job summary

DC Department of Human Resources seeks a Director of Human Resources for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The role directs the HR program for a diverse workforce of sworn and civilian staff, interpreting complex laws and policies and advising senior leadership on HR matters.

Responsibilities include developing innovative HR programs, overseeing recruitment, classification, compensation, benefits, and labor relations, while ensuring performance management and staff development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in human resource management, public administration, business administration, or related field preferred.
• Experience leading and managing a complex HR division with full scope of operations (recruitment, staffing, classification, compensation, benefits, retirement, employee relations).
• Ability to interpret and administer HR policies and to supervise other supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and coordinate the total Human Resources Program serving a diverse workforce.
• Interpret laws, policies, regulations, and guidelines across District and Federal agencies.
• Provide staff guidance to senior management on professional and sworn HR matters.
• Develop and administer innovative HR programs aligned with agency goals.
• Oversee major HR programs: recruitment, classification, compensation, benefits, and related areas.
• Guide labor relations discussions with the Office of the General Counsel and Labor Relations.
