Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Chief of Housing & Programs at Red Onion State Prison. You will lead planning and execution of evidence-based practices to reduce inmate recidivism, working with unit heads to ensure policies, housing, and treatment services align with the facility's mission.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of VADOC operational policies and practices in institutional settings.
• Ability to design, deliver, coordinate and evaluate inmate programs and services.
• Understanding of VARI and VADOC models for unit management and cognitive community.
• Ability to complete reports and write policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Leads planning, implementation and continual improvement of evidence based practices for inmate recidivism reduction.
• Supervises Unit Managers to ensure housing areas follow security procedures and treatment protocols.
• Oversees classification processes and therapeutic programming aligned with evidence-based design.
• Partners with Chief of Security to ensure EBP supports safety and involves security staff appropriately.
• Serves as Administrative Duty Officer and promotes staff development through training.
