Job summary

The Ballantyne, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and optimize all hotel engineering and maintenance operations. This role ensures safety, reliability, and high guest comfort across building systems, guest rooms, and public spaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Knowledge of building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in CMMS software.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Direct all day-to-day engineering, maintenance, and building operations for the hotel.
• Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and building systems.
• Ensure all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, building automation, and other critical systems operate safely and efficiently.
• Establish standards for timely response to maintenance requests, equipment failures, and guest concerns.
• Oversee emergency response procedures and coordinate corrective action during failures.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Engineering team.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate Engineering personnel.
• Develop and manage the Engineering department’s annual operating budget.
• Monitor labor, supplies, utilities, and contracts for financial performance.
• Partner with hotel leadership on capital planning and projects.
• Develop long-term capital plans to protect property value.
• Evaluate vendors and contractor performance.
• Maintain strong focus on guest comfort and service excellence.
• Collaborate with Rooms, Housekeeping, F&B, Spa, Events, and other departments.
• Ensure safety compliance and risk management across operations.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of maintenance and service contracts.
