Job summary

Animal Welfare Society (AWS) in Kennebunk, Maine, is seeking a Director of Development & Community Engagement to lead fundraising, donor relations, and community outreach. This role reports to the Executive Director and guides AWS’s comprehensive Development, Community Outreach, and Guest Services portfolios.

The incumbent will direct strategic planning, grantmaking, major gifts and corporate fundraising, and volunteer programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years as a senior leader in a 501(c)(3) nonprofit overseeing fundraising, grants, community engagement, volunteers, donor relations, and corporate giving.
• Minimum eight years supervising large revenue-generating programs and fundraising teams, on-site and remotely.
• Ten years in development including donor cultivation/retention, planned giving, capital campaigns, and foundation support.

Responsibilities

• Generate revenue by prospecting and securing corporate sponsorships and individual donations, achieving revenue goals.
• Develop and submit proposals, grant applications, and private foundation submissions for AWS Programs and Operations.
• Plan and lead AWS Capital Campaign to raise $50M+ for a new AWS Campus in Kennebunk, ME.
• Serve as lead and superuser for AWS Donor & Fundraising Management software, including data input and reporting.
