Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Director of Gift Policy to lead the drafting, review and approval of complex charitable gift agreements for the Regents and UC Berkeley Foundation. You will manage risk, ensure donor intent, and coordinate with campus counsel and advancement teams to align with UC policies.

The role requires extensive experience in gift agreements, tax-exempt compliance and higher education philanthropy, with leadership responsibilities and a focus on policy

Qualifications

• 10+ years in advancement operations with 5+ years applying contract administration principles to complex agreements
• Advanced experience with charitable gift agreements, tax-exempt organizations, and higher education advancement
• Expert knowledge of gift and fund agreement structures and related compliance requirements
• Ability to analyze, draft, interpret and administer complex contractual terms and risk considerations

Responsibilities

• Leads intake, analysis, drafting, review, approval and completion of legally binding charitable gift agreements for Regents and UC Berkeley Foundation
• Develops language for complex gifts, endowments, pledges, capital projects and research philanthropy
• Translates donor intent into terms governing purpose, restrictions, payments, stewardship and reporting
• Ensures agreements are executable by signatories and maintain long-term administration
• Analyzes contracts for compliance with laws, tax regulations, ethics standards and campus policies
• Leads cross-functional coordination with campus counsel, project teams and advancement units
