Job summary

OpenFn is a remote-first organization building digital public goods for governments and NGOs. We’re hiring our first Director of Fundraising to lead strategy, cultivate major donors and foundations, and secure multi-year support for Digital Public Goods and DPI initiatives.

You will shape our fundraising playbook, translate our mission into compelling cases, and collaborate with a lean, distributed team across time zones to maximize impact for public service automation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of fundraising, development, or philanthropic partnerships experience.
• Network of relationships with foundations, major donors, or institutional funders.
• Track record of securing significant gifts or multi-year commitments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to translate mission into support.
• Strong project management and organizational skills; able to build processes where none exist.
• Ability to work independently within a small, fully remote team.
• Fluent professional-level English communication across a distributed team.
• Reliable access to a quiet remote workspace with stable internet.

Responsibilities

• Build fundraising strategy across major donors, foundations, and funders.
• Establish processes, systems, and reporting cadence for the function.
• Set and track fundraising priorities with the CEO and leadership.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with foundations, family offices, and major donors.
• Develop funding proposals and reports; gather impact data and stories.
• Engage policy and DPI ecosystem; attend policy conversations when relevant.
• Report on progress and sustain funder relationships; ensure timely communications.
