Job summary

Open Cupboard in the Twin Cities seeks a Director of Food Systems to lead food rescue, sourcing, inventory and operations, and to oversee the regional hub-and-spoke distribution network. You will align programs with strategy and manage the fleet, facilities, and data systems to move rescued food efficiently.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in food rescue, food recovery, food banking, or related food systems/supply chain.
• Strong working knowledge of food waste and food recovery systems, including donor relationship management, perishable food logistics, and cold-chain handling.
• Experience managing programs and supervising staff, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization to donors, partner agencies, and funders.
• Comfort working with data to track performance, identify trends, and report outcomes to leadership and funders.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between Open Cupboard sites and partner locations across the East Metro.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy and execution to increase total pounds of food entering Open Cupboard through food rescue, sourcing, and donor development.
• Deepen relationships with retail, grocery, distributor, and wholesale donor partners to unlock additional pounds.
• Identify, onboard new food rescue and sourcing partners, including retailers, distributors, and institutions.
• Grow and manage agricultural food rescue partnerships with farmers markets and growers.
• Oversee inventory operations, including intake, sorting, storage, and cold-chain management.
• Hire, train, supervise, and develop food rescue drivers and inventory staff; build team capacity for growth.
