Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Business Administration or related field.
  • 7+ years of fleet maintenance management experience.
  • Experience leading large teams and complex maintenance operations.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices and safety standards.
  • Proficiency with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Master's degree preferred in related disciplines.
  • CAFM certification or equivalent credential.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives and green fleet technologies.
  • Budgeting and financial management experience in a large operation.
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience.

Job Description

The Director of Fleet Maintenance is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive maintenance and operational readiness of a diverse fleet within the administrative, support, waste management, and remediation services industry. This leadership role ensures that all vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, minimizing downtime and extending asset life.


The director will develop and implement strategic maintenance programs, manage budgets, and lead a team of maintenance professionals to achieve operational excellence. Collaboration with other departments is essential to align fleet capabilities with organizational goals and service delivery requirements. Ultimately, this role drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize fleet performance and support the company's mission of providing reliable and sustainable services.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute comprehensive fleet maintenance strategies to ensure vehicle and equipment reliability and safety.

  • Manage and lead the fleet maintenance team, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.

  • Oversee maintenance schedules, inspections, repairs, and compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.

  • Prepare and manage the fleet maintenance budget, including cost control, procurement of parts and services, and vendor management.

  • Analyze fleet performance data to identify trends, forecast maintenance needs, and implement process improvements.

  • Coordinate with operations and logistics teams to ensure fleet availability aligns with service delivery requirements.

  • Implement and maintain maintenance management systems and reporting tools to track work orders, inventory, and compliance.

  • Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations related to fleet operations and environmental standards.


Qualifications & Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in fleet maintenance management, preferably within the waste management or environmental services industry.

  • Proven experience managing large teams and complex maintenance operations.

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.

  • Proficiency with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Certifications such as Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) or equivalent.

  • Experience with sustainability initiatives and green fleet technologies.

  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial management in a large operational environment.

  • Demonstrated success in implementing continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
