Cardinal Health is seeking a Director, Transportation – First/Middle Mile to lead all U.S. first and middle mile operations across manufacturing sites, cross docks and replenishment centers. You will oversee a budget of about $200M and mentor a team of ~20 professionals.

This role partners with multiple internal teams and carrier partners to improve routing, service, cost-to-serve and network design. Travel ~15% and a comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Admin or related field.
• 12+ years of experience in transportation and logistics with 5+ years in a leadership role overseeing transportation operations in a multi-site environment.
• Proven track record of managing large transportation budgets ($100M+) and achieving cost savings and performance gains.
• Expertise in carrier management, contract negotiation, and relationship building.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate metrics and drive improvements.
• Experience with routing optimization technologies and TMS.
• Exceptional leadership and collaboration skills across levels and with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for all U.S. first and middle mile transportation operations across sites and centers.
• Lead and mentor a team of ~20 transportation professionals.
• Own and manage a transportation budget of ~ $200M, driving cost efficiency and on-time performance.
• Drive network optimization initiatives for routing, capacity, service, and cost-to-serve.
• Ensure transportation excellence across national distribution and manufacturing network.
• Lead transportation procurement: carrier sourcing, RFPs, negotiations, vendor management.
• Manage 100+ carrier partner relationships with focus on performance and compliance.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Inventory, Commercial, Marketing, Systems and Network Design teams to optimize flow.
• Establish and enforce transportation policies and governance standards.
• Oversee onboarding, network transitions, and carrier integrations.
• Leverage TMS, routing tech, and analytics to improve network decisions.
