The Director of Finance & Operations will serve as a key partner to firm leadership and oversee financial planning, treasury management, fund operations, regulatory coordination, and firmwide operational initiatives across Maycomb's management company and multiple fund entities. This individual will play a central role in strengthening the firm's infrastructure as Maycomb continues to scale its impact investing business. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen with operational leadership, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a lean, collaborative environment. This role spans finance, fund operations, and firm infrastructure management, while partnering closely with external service providers, including Maycomb's fund administrator, audit firm, legal counsel, and other operational service providers.

Responsibilities include:
Finance, Operations & Strategic Planning
  • Lead firmwide budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across the management company and multiple fund entities
  • Oversee budget-to-actual reporting, cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and financial performance analysis
  • Oversee treasury operations, including banking relationships, cash positioning, payment workflows, and financial controls across fund and management company accounts
  • Develop deep expertise in Maycomb's fund structures and ensure financial reporting accurately reflects underlying operations and investment activity
  • Coordinate quarterly investor reporting processes together with the investor relations team and fund administrators
  • Partner with the investment team and fund administrator to manage capital calls, distributions, financing activity, and portfolio cash flows
  • Design and implement scalable operational processes, financial infrastructure, and internal controls to support firm growth and institutional best practices
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, process improvements, automation, and enhanced systems infrastructure as the firm scales
  • Support strategic initiatives, business planning, and firm growth initiatives alongside senior leadership
Audit, Tax & Regulatory Oversight
  • Oversee the annual audit, tax, and regulatory compliance calendar across all legal entities and investment vehicles
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, fund administrators, and legal counsel to ensure timely and accurate filings
  • Ensure all entities remain in good standing and compliant with applicable regulatory and reporting requirements
  • Manage the collection, review, and organization of materials required for audits, tax filings, lender reporting, and investor reporting processes
  • Assist in the ongoing development of operational policies, controls, and compliance-related procedures
Firm Operations & Infrastructure
  • Expected to manage 1-2 employees, including the Executive Assistant & Office Manager as well as the Finance & Operations Analyst.
  • Oversee operational processes supporting portfolio management activities, including invoicing, loan servicing coordination, and reporting workflows
  • Manage key operational vendors and outsourced service providers, including the fund administrator, IT managed service providers, cybersecurity consultants, insurance brokers, and other business partners
  • Partner with external technology and cybersecurity providers to support secure, scalable, and effective firm infrastructure and operational risk management practices
  • Lead internal operational initiatives to improve systems, workflows, documentation, and organizational effectiveness
  • Oversee operational risk management processes, including annual insurance renewals and vendor compliance requirements
  • Serve as a cross-functional operational leader supporting collaboration across investment, investor relations, and leadership teams
  • Take on additional strategic and operational projects as the firm evolves

The expected base salary range for this role is $140,000-$170,000, commensurate with experience. The Director will also be eligible for an annual bonus and potential long-term incentive participation.

Competitive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings plan with employer contributions, commuter benefits, and paid time off.

Lee used Maycomb, a fictional district in Depression-era Alabama, as a backdrop for her universal story of the pursuit of justice. Her story sparked conversations about equity that still resonate today. Maycomb seeks to continue this dialogue, bringing innovative ideas to light through action.
