Job summary

Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square seeks a Director of Finance & Business Support to lead the accounting department and drive financial reporting, controls, and performance across the property.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will recruit and develop a high-performing team, ensure accurate month-end close, and collaborate on budgets, forecasts and strategic plans within a luxury hotel context.

Qualifications

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in English.
  • Professional designation or degree with specialization in Accounting or enrolled in a recognized accounting program.
  • Minimum of 3 years hotel accounting experience at a senior level.
  • Proven leadership and coaching skills to develop a motivated team.
  • Familiarity with hotel systems and software including GFS/SUN, OneStream, Office, Opera.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day to day operations of accounting department.
  • Develop an engaged, service driven team of accounting professionals.
  • Recruit, develop and motivate the accounting group.
  • Assist in preparing financial statements per policy and SOX regulations.
  • Interpret and analyze revenue, payroll and expenses for departments.
  • Represent the accounting office in meetings with leadership and ownership.
  • Maintain accounts and controls for accurate reports and statements.
  • Ensure clean internal and external audit reports.
  • Post journal entries and complete month-end processes.
  • Monitor month-end reconciliations and analyses.
  • Lead annual operating & capital budgets and forecasts.
  • Coordinate timely management reports and ensure system integration.

Director of Finance & Business Support

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Oversee day to day operations of accounting department

Develop an engaged, enthusiastic and service driven team of accounting professionals.

Recruit, develop and motivate the accounting group

Assist in the preparation of financial operating statements and reports in accordance with Corporate Policy and Procedure and SOX regulations.

Assist departments in the interpretation, orientation, training and analysis of revenue, payroll and expense matters.

Represent the accounting office in all employee, leadership, corporate and ownership meetings

Maintain system of accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements.

Actively involved in ensuring clean internal and external audit reports.

Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring efficient completion of all month-end functions for review

Monitor, supervise and prepare month-end balance sheet account reconciliation and analysis

Lead and organize the creation of the Annual Operating & Capital Budgets, Strategic Plan, and Monthly Operating Forecasts

Coordinate and ensure that all daily, semi-monthly and monthly management reports are issued on a timely and accurate basis.

Ensure there is effective utilization and integration of hotel and accounting technology systems, including software applications, current and future.

Participate in Senior Duty Manager schedule, rotating with other senior managers of the hotel throughout the year.

Actively contribute to hotel overall leadership and direction.

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.

Professional designation or acceptable university degree with an appropriate specialization in Accounting or enrolled in a recognized accounting program with progression to 4th or 5th level.

Minimum of 3 years hotel accounting experience and previous accounting experience at a senior level.

Proven leadership and coaching skills with a track record of developing a highly motivated and cross-trained group of progressive accounting professionals.

Familiarity with hotel operating systems and software, including GFS/SUN, OneStream, Microsoft Office, Silverware, Opera and Dephi.

Excellent administrative, interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
