Our technology is optimizing freight outcomes for our customers, a rapidly growing roster which includes some of the industry’s largest and most recognizable brands. Our software automates previously tedious and resource-intensive tasks, and unites disparate data sources to provide a holistic view of network performance. We’re backed by A-list venture firms and founders of industry-leading FreightTech companies, and were recently recognized in the FreightWaves FreightTech 25 and the BCV x Headline Vertical SaaS 50. With ample financial backing and strong traction, we’re seeking a talented Director of Finance to join us on the ground floor and help bring ultra-modern transportation technology to market.

About the Role

As our first finance hire, the Director of Finance will build and lead all aspects of the finance function at GoodShip. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys architecting financial strategy and processes from scratch, and wants to help scale a high-growth, venture-backed startup. You’ll be a strategic partner to the leadership team—particularly in operations, go-to-market, and product—and play a critical role in shaping the trajectory of the company as we expand our customer base and product offerings.

You Will

Build the Finance Function

Architect our finance infrastructure from the ground up—iterate forecasting models, reporting cadences, and core processes for budgeting and cash management.

Own Strategic Finance and FP&A

Partner with leadership on company-wide financial planning, scenario modeling, and long-range forecasting. Define and track SaaS metrics like ARR, CAC, LTV, and margin trends.

Lead Financial Operations

Manage outsourced accounting partners and oversee month-end close, AR/AP, revenue recognition, tax, and compliance. Ensure GAAP adherence and audit readiness.

Guide Capital Strategy

Partner with leadership on fundraising strategy, investor relations, and cap table management. Drive board-level reporting and support ongoing capital planning.

Serve as a Key Operations Partner

Work hand-in-hand with operations leadership to ensure financial rigor in areas like cost efficiency, vendor and systems selection, forecasting, and resource allocation.

Partner Cross-Functionally

Collaborate with cross-functional leaders—especially in operations and go-to-market—to drive cost efficiency, resource planning, and data-backed strategic initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Brings 8+ years of experience across FP&A, strategic finance, or accounting, ideally within venture-backed SaaS startups (Series A–C).
  • Has deep knowledge of SaaS business models and metrics—and knows how to apply them to drive growth and efficiency.
  • Is a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and is excited to build systems, processes, and models from a clean slate.
  • Balances strategic thinking with operational execution—you’re equally comfortable in spreadsheets, boardrooms, and day-to-day operations.
  • Has experience presenting to executive leadership and boards and understands the rigor required at high-growth stages.
  • Leads with curiosity, humility, and a strong sense of ownership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in finance roles with increasing responsibility; at least 3 years in B2B SaaS environments.
  • Proven track record of owning FP&A and financial operations for a growing startup.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills and fluency in SaaS performance metrics.
  • Experience managing external accounting firms and implementing internal controls.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to synthesize and present complex information to non-finance audiences.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in GoodShip
  • 100% employer-paid health benefits
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Winter break the week of December holidays
  • Fully remote work environment
  • Destination team off-sites
