Cornerstone Support Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Director of Finance to lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a growing nonprofit organization.

The role involves strengthening internal controls, evaluating systems, and driving efficiency to support Cornerstone's mission. The Director will report to the Fractional CFO and collaborate with the CAO, executive leadership, and finance teams to deliver accurate financial statements and strategic insights.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must hold an accounting degree or a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Hands-on QuickBooks Desktop experience is required.
  • Experience with corporate credit cards and expense management.
  • Experience evaluating financial processes and implementing system/workflow improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify root causes of financial issues.
  • Excellent communication of complex financial matters to non-financial leaders.
  • Experience supervising and developing accounting or finance staff.
  • High standards of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting operations, including GL oversight, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow information, and management reports.
  • Evaluate accounting, billing, payroll, purchasing, and reconciliation processes for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Identify recurring financial issues, determine root causes, and present practical improvements.
  • Oversee corporate card and expense-management processes, including coding, receipts, approvals, and purchasing controls.
  • Monitor Medicaid revenue, billing, accounts receivable, and related reconciliations.
  • Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and analysis.
  • Support external audits, tax reporting, and Form 990 preparation; ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop internal controls and segregation of duties.
  • Supervise and develop finance staff; establish clear accountability.
  • Participate in evaluating and implementing future accounting and financial systems.

Position Summary

Cornerstone Support Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of our growing nonprofit organization.

This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial operations while also evaluating our existing financial systems and processes, strengthening internal controls, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending improvements that will support Cornerstone's continued growth.

The Director of Finance will report functionally to our Fractional CFO and work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer, executive leadership, and finance and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead accounting operations, including general ledger oversight, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow information, and management reports.
  • Evaluate accounting, billing, payroll, purchasing, and reconciliation processes for accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and internal control.
  • Identify recurring financial issues, determine root causes, and present practical recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee RAMP corporate card and expense-management processes, including coding, receipts, approvals, permissions, reconciliations, and purchasing controls.
  • Monitor Medicaid revenue, billing, accounts receivable, and related reconciliations.
  • Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and analysis.
  • Support external audits, tax reporting, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Supervise and develop finance staff and establish clear accountability for financial responsibilities.
  • Participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of future accounting and financial systems.
Qualifications

We are seeking a finance professional with strong accounting expertise combined with excellent analytical, leadership, systems, and problem-solving skills.

Required experience includes:
  • One or more accounting degrees or closely related fields of study.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Strong hands-on QuickBooks Desktop experience.
  • Experience with corporate credit cards and expense management.
  • Experience evaluating financial processes and implementing meaningful system and workflow improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify the root cause of financial or operational problems.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial matters and recommendations clearly to non-financial leaders.
  • Experience supervising and developing accounting or finance staff.
  • High standards of accuracy, integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
Preferred Experience:

Our ideal candidate is a CPA with depth of experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Nonprofit accounting,
  • Medicaid-funded services,
  • Healthcare,
  • Human services,
  • Multi-location organizations,
  • Other highly regulated environments.
  • RAMP credit cards bill pay.
  • Accounting system selections and implementation.
