Job description

Niles Skilled Nursing and Rehab is seeking an experienced Director of Environmental Services to oversee the facility’s environmental services operations, including maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, orient, supervise, and schedule Environmental Services department staff.

  • Manage employee timekeeping, attendance, performance, and other personnel matters.

  • Coordinate regularly with facility leadership regarding building operations, equipment, housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance needs.

  • Prioritize multiple maintenance and environmental services projects while ensuring timely completion.

  • Conduct or assist with facility inspections and coordinate with applicable municipal or regulatory inspectors.

  • Oversee indoor and outdoor maintenance, cleanliness, and general upkeep of the facility.

  • Coordinate and monitor outside vendors and service contracts while maintaining departmental expenses within budget.

  • Maintain appropriate inventories of maintenance supplies, tools, parts, and equipment.

  • Identify larger repair or replacement needs and assist with capital expenditure planning.

  • Maintain accurate departmental records, logs, inspection documentation, and other required records.

  • Assist with environmental services operations at other locations when requested by management.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform or oversee basic carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building maintenance repairs.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Comfortable using computers and standard workplace software.

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with facility leadership and department staff.

Education and Experience
  • Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare, skilled nursing, commercial, industrial, or similar environment required.

  • Associate degree, trade-school certification, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or additional education in facility management, engineering, environmental services, or a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 50 pounds to a height of approximately 5 feet and transport that weight for a distance of approximately 50 feet.

  • Ability to walk throughout the facility and perform routine physical maintenance activities.

  • Ability to safely use ladders and perform work at elevated heights, including rooftop areas when necessary.

  • Ability to perform the physical duties associated with facility maintenance and environmental services operations.
