Job Description Summary

ModMed is hiring a Director of Engineering Productivity & Enablement to lead the effort that makes every engineering team faster, safer, and more confident in what they ship. Our mission is to build innovative, high-quality solutions for the healthcare ecosystem in order to increase practice efficiency and improve patient care.

In this role your customers are ModMed engineers. You will supervise the final steps of our release process including build, final testing, tagging. across EMA® and our broader platform, and you will be accountable for improving and optimizing how software gets delivered. This is a force multiplier role: when you succeed, hundreds of developers ship better software with less friction, and the whole engineering organization scales.

This is a leadership role with a wide mandate and real freedom. We are not looking to centralize quality or add process. We are looking for someone who will rethink how testing and release work get done, bring AI and new approaches to the problem, and enable product teams to own quality themselves.

What you’ll do
  • Team Leadership: Lead, grow, and develop a team of engineers and engineering leaders who support product teams across the organization. You will hire, coach, and set clear expectations, and foster an adaptable, high ownership culture where accountability sits with the people closest to the work.
  • Solve the Biggest Bottleneck: Identify where engineering time is lost, whether in testing, release readiness, environments, or hand-offs, and drive measurable improvements. You will have the freedom to choose the problems that matter most and the approach to solving them.
  • Release Enablement: Support and enable the teams that deliver our releases. Evolve the release approach by replacing manual sign-offs and heavy gatekeeping with automation, strong verification, and scalable pipelines, with a direct, positive impact on the overall release cycle.
  • Innovation with AI: Evaluate, design, and deploy high-impact AI and automation in internal engineering workflows, focused on measurable developer productivity rather than sheer volume. Pilot and scale new methods that change how much our engineers can accomplish.
  • Engineering Productivity: Build the tools, automation, and shared practices that reduce friction for developers and increase output across the organization. Treat internal teams as customers, gather their feedback continuously, and measure success by adoption and results.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with engineering, product, and executive leadership to align priorities and build the case for change.
What you’ll bring
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong technical foundation in how software is built, tested, and released.
  • 5+ years in engineering leadership roles, including leading managers or leaders and building high-performing teams.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI to engineering workflows such as testing, release, or developer productivity, with examples of measurable results.
  • A track record of improving engineering productivity or delivery at scale, and of treating internal teams as customers.
  • Hands-on expertise in modern continuous delivery, cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), containerization, automated build and test frameworks, and developer experience tooling.
  • A record of innovation: you have introduced new methods or tooling that changed how teams work, rather than only running established processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build capability that other teams adopt willingly, including the internal advocacy needed to drive that adoption.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and executive leadership.
Location Requirement

Hybrid: This role requires being in the office 3 days a week to collaborate closely with engineering and executive leadership.
