Job summary

iENG Design, headquartered in Chesterfield, MO with offices including Raleigh, NC, is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the Engineering team in Raleigh. The role requires 10+ years of mechanical or civil engineering experience with 3-5 years in a leadership capacity, and will drive technical excellence while aligning with client expectations and corporate standards.

You will manage office-level engineering operations, staff, and budget, provide mentorship, oversee hiring and performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (BS required).
• Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
• PE licensure in one or more states strongly preferred.
• 10+ years mechanical engineering with 3–5 years leadership.
• Multi-office collaboration experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• Advanced HVAC design expertise (VAV, chiller plants, boilers, etc).
• Experience with engineering calculation software.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE and NFPA codes; local codes.
• Proven office P&L or budget management.
• Business development and design/build leadership preferred.
• Staffing and workforce planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage all engineering personnel for the office.
• Oversee hiring, performance reviews, and development.
• Provide mentoring, coaching, and career guidance; lead training.
• Address performance issues; implement improvement plans.
• Develop and improve QC standards, workflows, SOPs.
• Manage office P&L or department budget.
• Monitor budgets and engineering hours across the portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards and codes.
• Set local operational policy and drive process improvements.
• Provide technical oversight on complex projects.
• Participate in design turnover and VDC turnover meetings.
• Partner with BD on pursuits and client strategy.
• Collaborate on staffing with other offices.
• Staffing planning and resource allocation.
