Position Overview

The Director of Engineering – E-Commerce will lead a high-performing engineering organization responsible for building and scaling robust, secure, and customer-centric e-commerce platforms. This role requires a strong blend of technical acumen, product-focused thinking, and leadership skills to drive the digital commerce experience forward in alignment with business goals.

You will be instrumental in shaping the e-commerce technology roadmap, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering world-class solutions that power a multi-billion-dollar distribution business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end engineering efforts for the company’s e-commerce platform, including architecture, development, testing, and deployment.
• Partner closely with Product, UX, Marketing, and Operations teams to align on roadmap priorities and deliver customer-centric features.
• Build and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, managers, and technical leads across multiple disciplines (frontend, backend, cloud, DevOps, QA).
• Ensure systems are scalable, performant, reliable, and secure to support enterprise-grade e-commerce capabilities.
• Drive agile engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and DevSecOps.
• Collaborate with enterprise IT and architecture teams to ensure seamless integration with ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, and other backend systems.
• Set and monitor KPIs for team performance, system reliability, and project delivery.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and e-commerce trends to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles focused on e-commerce platforms.
• Proven track record of leading engineering teams in large-scale, enterprise environments.
• Deep understanding of modern e-commerce architectures, frameworks, and platforms (e.g., headless commerce, microservices, MACH architecture, etc.).
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), APIs, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, etc.).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Preferred Experience

• Experience in the distribution, logistics, or supply chain industry.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce (Magento), or similar enterprise commerce solutions.
• Experience working with large-scale product catalogs and complex pricing models.
• Agile or SAFe certifications a plus.
