Job summary

TPG Hotels and Resorts is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee the maintenance and operation of building systems in our Washington, DC property. You will manage a team, ensure safety, and drive renovations while controlling costs and maintaining regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of building systems, leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate with vendors to keep facilities in top condition and deliver guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent in engineering or facilities management.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations.
• Proven leadership and team management experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement preventive maintenance for hotel systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural).
• Lead and supervise maintenance staff; assign tasks and mentor team.
• Develop and manage the maintenance department budget; optimize costs.
• Ensure compliance with safety codes, regulations, and industry standards; conduct audits.
• Coordinate renovations and projects with architects, contractors, and suppliers.
• Maintain thorough records of maintenance activities, inspections, equipment manuals, and warranties.
• Address guest-reported maintenance issues promptly to ensure satisfaction.

This includes managing a team of maintenance personnel, overseeing repairs and renovations, and ensuring that the property is compliant with all safety and regulatory standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintenance Management:
• Plan and execute a preventive maintenance program for all hotel systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural elements.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.
• Ensure that maintenance tasks are completed promptly and efficiently.
• Team Leadership:
• Recruit, train, and supervise a team of maintenance staff.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to maintenance personnel.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to team members.
• Budget Management:
• Help in the development of and manage the maintenance department's budget.
• Control costs by optimizing maintenance processes and negotiating contracts with vendors and
• Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure that the hotel complies with all safety codes, regulations, and industry standards.
• Oversee regular safety inspections and audits.
• Implement emergency response plans and procedures.
• Renovations and Projects:
• Coordinate and oversee renovation projects within the hotel.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Record-Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, required inspections, equipment manuals, and warranties.
• Generate reports on maintenance and repair expenses for management.
• Guest Satisfaction:
• Ensure that maintenance issues reported by guests are resolved promptly and effectively.
• Implement a guest-focused approach to maintenance to enhance the guest experience.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Budgeting and cost control expertise.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when needed

Working Conditions & Physical Effort

Physical work is a primary part of many of our hotel and resort jobs. Physical requirements include extended standing and walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting to 50 lbs. Some work is performed in an interior hotel environment with equipment and machines.
