Job summary

TPG Hotels and Resorts seeks a Chief Engineer to oversee maintenance and the efficient operation of all hotel systems, manage a maintenance team, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and guest comfort.

You will plan preventive maintenance, supervise repairs, manage budgets, and coordinate renovations with architects and contractors, while keeping detailed records and reporting to management. This role requires strong building-systems knowledge and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Budgeting and cost control expertise.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance management and preventive maintenance program for hotel systems.
  • Plan and conduct regular inspections; prioritize repairs and ensure timely completion.
  • Lead and develop maintenance staff; assign tasks and mentor the team.
  • Assist in developing and managing the maintenance department budget; control costs and negotiate contracts.
  • Ensure safety codes, regulations, and industry standards are met; conduct safety inspections and audits.
  • Coordinate renovations and projects with architects, contractors, and suppliers to meet timelines and budgets.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, manuals, and warranties; generate expense reports.
  • Address guest-reported maintenance issues promptly to enhance guest satisfaction.

Job Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance and efficient operation of all building systems in a hotel including its mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. This role ensures that the hotel's facilities are in good working condition, safe for guests and staff, and compliant with local regulations. This includes managing a team of maintenance personnel, overseeing repairs and renovations, and ensuring that the property is compliant with all safety and regulatory standards.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Maintenance Management:
  • Plan and execute a preventive maintenance program for all hotel systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural elements.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.
  • Ensure that maintenance tasks are completed promptly and efficiently.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of maintenance staff.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to maintenance personnel.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to team members.
  • Budget Management:
  • Help in the development of and manage the maintenance department's budget.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort

Physical work is a primary part of many of our hotel and resort jobs. Physical requirements include extended standing and walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting to 50 lbs. Some work is performed in an interior hotel environment with equipment and machines.
