Job summary

Staffing Solutions of Hawaii is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead all engineering and maintenance operations at a large resort in Honolulu. You will provide hands-on leadership, ensure safety and efficiency, and drive preventive maintenance across multi‑tower properties.

The role requires budgeting, capital projects oversight, and collaboration with ownership, management, and vendors to maintain guest experience and asset performance.

Qualifications

• Experienced leader in engineering operations, preferably in hospitality.
• Experience managing budgets and capital projects.
• Experience with unionized staff and large-scale facilities.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical and life-safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, and building systems.
• Provide hands-on, visible leadership to the engineering team and manage scheduling, training and performance.
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
• Oversee capital improvements, renovations and projects from planning through completion.
• Manage department budgets, expenses, forecasting and financial performance.

Experience

• Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Assistant Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, or in a similar engineering leadership role required.
• 3+ years of relevant engineering leadership experience; additional experience may qualify candidates for the higher end of the salary range.
• Experience leading engineering operations within a large hotel, resort, vacation ownership, or hospitality environment required.

Job Description

• Lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, mechanical rooms, and building systems.
• Provide hands-on, visible leadership to the engineering team and ensure effective scheduling, training, performance, and daily operations.
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to maintain property assets and minimize equipment downtime.
• Oversee capital improvement, renovation, construction, and other engineering projects from planning through completion.
• Manage department budgets, expenses, forecasting, and financial performance while ensuring resources are used effectively.
• Coordinate engineering operations across multiple towers, facilities, and projects in a large-scale resort environment.
• Respond calmly and decisively to maintenance issues, emergencies, and other 24/7 operational needs.
• Work collaboratively with ownership, HOA representatives, General Management, executive leadership, vendors, and other departments.
• Manage relationships with union-represented employees and support positive labor relations.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, building, and life-safety requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, sustainability, guest experience, and overall property performance.
• Provide long-term leadership and stability while supporting the continued development and advancement of the engineering team.

Position Requirements

• Experience managing budgets, capital projects, renovations, and preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience working with union-represented teams strongly preferred.
• Hawaiʻi resort experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with multi-tower or large-scale resorts with 200+ rooms preferred.
• Hotel renovation, construction, or opening experience is a strong plus.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life-safety, and building systems.
• CPO, LEED, PMP, or similar certifications are desirable but not required.
• Tagalog fluency is a plus.
• Must currently reside in Hawaiʻi or have established independent relocation plans (no relocation assistance is available).
