Job summary

City of Watonga, OK seeks a Director of Economic and Community Development to lead growth and vitality efforts in Watonga. The role reports to the City Manager and drives strategies linking entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, tourism, arts, and quality of place to sustainable community outcomes.

The ideal candidate will be a visible, boots-on-the-ground leader with strong coalitions, excellent communication, and the ability to translate opportunities into action while building partnerships

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree as listed in field requirements.
• Minimum of three years in economic development, community development, city management or marketing.
• EDI/ BEDC completion or CEcD a plus; equivalent experience considered.

The City of Watonga, OK is seeking an experienced professional for Director of Community and Economic Development. The position reports to the City Manager.

Ideal Candidate:

The candidate needs a strong understanding of economic and community development and must recognize the important connection between entrepreneurship, business growth, education opportunities, health care, tourism, cultural arts, community events, quality of place, and the overall vitality of the community. Be an innovative strategic thinker who can identify opportunities, develop effective strategies, analyze community and market trends, and translate ideas into action. Be visible and “boots on the ground” - present at events, known personally by participants and the community. A highly effective communicator and skilled coalition builder who can establish productive relationships with elected officials, economic development partners, business leaders, community stakeholders, and the general public. Actively promote Watonga as a quality place to live, work, visit, and do business.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in economics, marketing, finance, real estate development, business administration, public administration, urban planning or a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of economic development, community development, city management or marketing.
• Completion of the OU Economic Development Institute (EDI) and IEDC Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC). Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation is a plus.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
