Position Title: Director of Dining Services I - Grier School

Salary: $70,000-$80,000/yr.

Job Summary

The Director of Dining Services is a key leadership position responsible for the day-to-day operations of Dining Services at the Grier School in Tyrone, PA. This includes overseeing the culinary team, managing menu planning, food ordering and scheduling, and ensuring that our dining operations consistently exceed client expectations. With a focus on quality, cost-effective management, and customer satisfaction, this role will oversee a café, dining hall, coffee shop, and catering services. Catering experience and a strong background in menu planning are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee food ordering, menu planning, scheduling, and staffing of hourly associates with an emphasis on efficient, quality service.
  2. Plan and execute catering events, including upscale pop-up catering services, with a strong emphasis on cultural diversity in menu offerings.
  3. Ensure proper staffing for all shifts, including weekend brunches and dinner services. Manage and schedule the hourly team.
  4. Develop diverse and culturally rich menus.
  5. Manage budgets, food cost controls, and financial reporting. Strong financial and budgetary skills are essential.
  6. Serve as the primary culinary contact for clients. Maintain open communication regarding menu preferences, catering events, and service needs.
  7. Provide leadership and mentorship to the culinary team, ensuring high standards for food quality, presentation, and cleanliness are consistently met.
  8. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations (HACCP and OSHA) and internal quality control standards.
  9. Oversee daily operations of a café and dining hall.
  10. Participate in the preparation and service of food items as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Heavy culinary experience, particularly in a catering environment. Catering experience, especially with pop-up events, is highly preferred.
  2. Strong menu planning skills is especially important in this role to ensure a variety of culturally diverse and appealing meals.
  3. Experience in scheduling and managing a culinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Catering experience is ideal, particularly with upscale events.
  5. Experience in a K-12 school environment setting preferred.
  6. Ability to work with a diverse team and clientele.
  7. Must be available and flexible, with the ability to work weekends as needed.
