Job summary

Nova Clean Energy in the United States is seeking a seasoned Development Leader to advance our pipeline of utility-scale renewable projects. You will report to the SVP of Development and lead a small team to identify opportunities, drive acquisition through NTP, and ensure alignment with budgets and schedules.

The role requires strong regulatory insight, stakeholder negotiation, and the ability to manage complex portfolios.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in project development and project management within renewable energy.
  • Strong commercial understanding and financial acumen to manage a portfolio of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide internal expertise on regulatory and policy dynamics within the assigned market.
  • Identify development prospects and advance project development activities, including leading a team of internal and external experts.
  • Cultivate and retain a high-functioning team and provide mentorship to direct reports.
  • Collaborate with FP&A to maintain portfolio and project plans and report budgets, schedules, and financial metrics.
  • Lead complex negotiations with external stakeholders when senior leadership is needed.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accuracy in project and market-level data.
  • Address process and procedure gaps to support portfolio growth.

About the Role

You will report to the SVP of Development and advance our development pipeline through successful acquisition of new project opportunities to advancement of Nova’s existing project pipeline. You will lead a small team of early‑career and mid‑career professionals. As a leader at Nova, you will model and reinforce a culture of ownership and accountability.

  • Provide internal expertise on regulatory and policy dynamics and changes within the assigned market. Ensure Nova is engaged at an appropriate level with regional trade groups, consultants, and advisors to inform investment decisions on projects.
  • Identify development prospects and advance project development activities, both through individual contributions and by managing a team of internal and external subject matter experts. This role requires that you’re comfortable and confident both in the earliest stages of identifying projects with strong market potential to advancing a project to NTP.
  • Cultivate and retain a high‑functioning team and provide mentorship to direct reports,
  • Collaborate with FP&A team to ensure portfolio and project plans are created and maintained, and regularly report on project budgets, schedules, and financial metrics to ensure company leadership has a clear understanding of the project‑and‑portfolio‑level risk and status.
  • Lead complex negotiations with external stakeholders when senior leadership is needed.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to work through financial model inputs and ensure. accuracy in project and market‑level data
  • Address process and procedure gaps necessary to advance Nova as the team and portfolio grows.
About You

You’re an experienced leader, managing people and teams with a track‑record of taking utility‑scale renewable projects through key milestones. You thrive in a nimble and adaptive business environment.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in project development and project management within renewable energy, leading a utility‑scale project through COD preferred
  • Commercial understanding and financial acumen, with strong ability to speak to and manage portfolio based on economic drivers or projects
  • Strong understanding of US Power Markets, with development experience in MISO, ERCOT and SPP strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to successfully lead negotiations with external stakeholders and maintain relationships
  • Experienced in managing competing priorities, delegating workload, and delivering on project schedules
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Location: Candidates based out of our Chicago, IL, Austin, TX, or Denver, CO office are highly preferred.
