Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking a Director of Data Engineering in Austin to lead data, software, and AI capabilities underpinning Marketing Automation and MarTech. You will set the vision for platforms connecting customer, marketing, product, and operational data while ensuring secure, scalable AI.

You will partner with Marketing, Analytics, Product, and Technology teams to improve engagement, campaign effectiveness, and operational efficiency, building a high-performing engineering organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or a related discipline; includes leading managers or multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience defining and executing technology strategy across complex, enterprise-scale environments.
• Proven track record of building and operating production-grade data platforms, pipelines, integrations, and automation.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT, batch and streaming systems, APIs and orchestration.
• Experience with SQL, Python, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), Spark, CI/CD, observability, and infra automation.
• Experience integrating CRM, marketing automation, customer data, analytics, experimentation, and personalization platforms; Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo, Eloqua a plus.
• Experience establishing data quality, governance, security, privacy, reliability, and responsible AI practices.
• Experience leading software delivery, production operations, incident management, modernization, and platform simplification.
• Experience applying ML, generative AI, intelligent automation in production environments.

Responsibilities

• Set and execute a multi-year data and technology strategy aligned to Marketing Automation and Digital Operations priorities.
• Lead interconnected capabilities: data engineering, software engineering, and AI/innovation.
• Define architecture standards and pragmatic build/buy decisions balancing speed, scale, reliability, security, and cost.
• Build and evolve scalable data pipelines, data products, APIs, integrations, and tooling across MarTech ecosystem.
• Establish data quality, observability, governance, privacy, security, and incident response practices.
• Partner with Analytics and business stakeholders to create trusted metrics and self-service analytics.
• Enable advanced analytics, ML, generative AI, and intelligent automation with fit-for-purpose foundations.
• Lead an innovation portfolio from discovery to production, ensuring measurable products.
• Align roadmaps and communicate progress to senior leadership.
