Job summary

Expedia Group in Austin, TX is seeking a Director of Data Engineering to shape our multi-year data and technology strategy across Marketing Automation, MarTech, and personalization. You will lead data, software, and AI capabilities to deliver scalable platforms and trusted analytics across the business.

You will build and mentor a high-performing team, drive architecture decisions, ensure data quality and governance, and partner with senior stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data/ software/platform engineering.
• 3+ years leading managers or multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
• Production-grade data platforms, pipelines, and automation experience.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, Python, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), Spark, CI/CD, observability, and automation.

Responsibilities

• Set and execute a multi-year data and technology strategy across Marketing Automation and AI initiatives.
• Lead data engineering, software engineering, and AI/innovation capabilities.
• Define architecture standards and platform decisions balancing speed, scale, security, and cost.
• Build scalable data pipelines, APIs, integrations, services, and developer tooling across MarTech.
• Establish data quality, governance, privacy, security, and incident response practices.
• Partner with Analytics to create trusted metrics and self-service capabilities.
• Lead the adoption of AI, machine learning, and responsible AI guardrails.
• Mentor and scale a high-performing team of engineering leaders and ICs.
