As the Director of Data at Lonely Planet, you will play a pivotal role in defining and steering our data strategy, helping us harness the power of data to fuel business growth. You will lead the development of innovative data products and advanced capabilities that enable AI-driven solutions, directly enhancing customer experiences in our next-generation travel products. Work Experience
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership And Vision
- Set the vision and strategy for the Data & AI team, ensuring that it aligns with the organization’s overarching business goals to drive data-driven decision-making.
People Leadership And Development
- Build and mentor high-performing teams that embody collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- Raise the level of data literacy across the organization through evangelization and targeted training programs, ensuring that all stakeholders can effectively leverage data to drive their objectives.
Data Architecture And Governance
- Define and implement comprehensive data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility across the organization.
- Oversee the design and development of robust data architectures that facilitate model training, deployment, and monitoring.
Innovation And Technology Adoption
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics, fostering a culture of innovation within the team.
- Address evolving business needs and lead initiatives to securely adopt AI/ML technologies, including the development of advanced recommender systems.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven track record in managing enterprise-level data initiatives and leading geographically distributed, agile data teams.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating with executive leadership on data initiatives.
- 10+ years of experience in data platform architecture, management, and product development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement recommender systems that enhance user experiences and drive engagement.
- Strong knowledge of modern data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, streaming) and real-time data solutions.
- Solid understanding of data governance and security best practices, including compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Expertise in custom ETL design, schema design, and dimensional data modeling.
- Skilled in leveraging cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP for data solutions.
- Familiar with Databricks and MLflow for managing data workflows and the machine learning lifecycle.
- Knowledge of generative AI technologies and their applications in data analytics and user personalization.
- Strong ability to define and drive a vision for data management, analytics, and fostering a data-driven culture.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high-energy, self-starter attitude and a passion for data.
Exceptional Candidates Will Have
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar technologies.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth tech start-up environment.
- Proven track record of taking consumer products from concept to launch (0 to 1).
Compensation
Cash Compensation Range: $215,000-250,000 + potential equity
- Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
