Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering for Content Tools, leading a ~10‑person team responsible for API‑first tools and their reliable operation. You will shape design standards, contribute to governance, and drive end‑to‑end delivery across tool design, CLI/SDK exposure, and CI/CD pipelines.

You will partner with TR Labs and CoCounsel Engineering to ensure alignment with agentic workflows, content licensing considerations, and robust production operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
• Demonstrated experience designing and operating API‑first systems consumed by multiple teams, with a product mindset toward developer experience and internal customer satisfaction.
• Proficiency in Python and strong software engineering fundamentals, API design, testing strategy, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience building and governing shared platform infrastructure in a distributed development model, including contribution standards and versioning policies.
• Familiarity with information retrieval concepts and retrieval systems for sound architectural decisions and partner effectiveness.
• Proven ability to lead teams that own production systems end‑to‑end, including on‑call responsibilities, SLO management, and incident response.
• Strong leadership skills: agile methodologies, communication, and cross‑team alignment.
• Awareness of AI ethics, content licensing considerations, and responsible deployment of retrieval systems.

Responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end engineering roadmap for Content Tools, including design, implementation, CLI/SDK exposure, CI/CD, and cloud operations.
• Drive API‑first, contract‑driven tool development with versioned CLI contracts and clear ownership metadata.
• Establish patterns, templates, and governance for distributed tool development and contribution workflows.
• Lead the IR evaluation framework and ensure performance regressions are caught in CI/CD.
• Champion full‑stack operational ownership, including on‑call rotations and incident response for production tool services.
• Collaborate with TR Labs and CoCounsel Engineering to align tools with agentic workflows.
• Oversee platform infrastructure, including cloud services (AWS), observability, rate limiting, caching, and multi‑tenant access controls.
