Job summary

Position Overview

The Director of Construction is responsible for leading construction operations from project handoff through completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with approved plans and quality standards.

This position provides leadership to construction personnel, field crews, subcontractors, and trade partners while establishing accountability for project schedules, budgets, quality, safety, and customer experience. The Director will work closely with sales, design, project management, and operations to ensure projects transition smoothly from sold work into successful completion.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader who can manage a high-volume project environment, develop strong field teams, improve operational processes, and maintain a strong focus on both financial performance and customer satisfaction.

Project Delivery & Field Operations

• Oversee the construction lifecycle from project handoff through final completion.
• Review project documentation, drawings, scopes of work, material requirements, and other construction information before projects enter the field.
• Identify potential constructability, scheduling, permitting, material, or site issues before they impact production.
• Coordinate pre-construction meetings and ensure field teams understand project scope, specifications, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
• Ensure crews and trade partners have the necessary materials, permits, equipment, information, and resources to execute work efficiently.
• Monitor active projects through regular field visits and construction reviews.
• Establish and maintain consistent quality-control procedures throughout the construction process.
• Ensure jobsites are maintained in a safe, organized, and professional condition.
• Coordinate trade sequencing and scheduling to minimize downtime and maintain project momentum.
• Address field issues quickly and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
• Oversee project closeout, punch-list completion, final inspections, and warranty-related work.
• Monitor project costs and construction performance against established budgets and estimates.
• Review and approve construction-related expenditures within established authority levels.
• Identify cost variances and take corrective action before they negatively impact project profitability.
• Manage subcontractor and trade partner payment processes based on verified completion and company requirements.
• Control material usage, inventory, equipment, and purchasing to minimize unnecessary expenses.
• Work with leadership to identify opportunities to improve margins, productivity, and resource utilization.
• Maintain accurate project information and ensure construction status, schedules, and key milestones are current.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with sales and design teams to ensure sold projects are complete, accurate, and ready for construction.
• Review project packages and provide feedback regarding scope, constructability, site conditions, and potential risks.
• Communicate construction considerations and field feedback to sales and leadership teams.
• Help establish processes that improve the transition from sales through construction and final completion.
• Serve as a senior point of contact for significant construction-related customer concerns.
• Support company events, recruiting initiatives, and other operational activities as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• 5-10 years of progressive construction management experience, within a high-volume, quick turnaround, permit-driven construction environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing construction teams, subcontractors, and multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong understanding of construction scheduling, job costing, quality control, safety, and field operations.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and installation requirements.
• Proven ability to identify problems, establish priorities, and implement practical solutions.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
