Job summary

City of Pilot Point seeks a Community Services Director to lead the Planning, Zoning, Building Inspections and Code Compliance divisions, ensuring sustainable development and regulatory alignment. You will guide strategic initiatives, manage budgets, and advise city leadership.

The role requires a strong background in urban planning, public administration, and municipal operations, with supervisory experience and a commitment to excellent customer service for residents and businesses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required).
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, building, permitting, or code compliance.
• At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership over planning, zoning, building inspections, code compliance, and permitting.
• Develop, implement, and enforce policies for compliant service delivery across laws.
• Lead initiatives to modernize operations, coordinate across divisions, and promote sustainable growth.
• Align departmental goals with housing, transportation, infrastructure, and economic development plans.
• Oversee review of planning applications, permits, and development proposals.
• Ensure professional inspection services and code enforcement.
• Collaborate with other departments, developers, residents, and external agencies.
• Lead long-range planning updates to ordinances, plans, and building codes.
• Prepare and manage annual budget; oversee grants, contracts, and capital projects.
• Advise City leadership and attend public meetings; supervise staff performance and development.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning

Master's degree (preferred)

AICP certification

Municipal or government experience
