Job summary

Audubon Southwest seeks a Director of Community Building to expand the Audubon network in New Mexico and Arizona. You will lead education and engagement programs, develop partnerships, and guide center operations at Randall Davey (Santa Fe) and Rio Salado (Phoenix).

This senior role reports to the Executive Director, collaborating with policy and habitat teams to drive fundraising, program growth, and diverse membership to protect birds and their habitats.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 10 years’ professional experience developing programming.
• Demonstrated understanding of environmental and outdoor education philosophies and best practices in New Mexico and Arizona.
• Effective leadership with strategic thinking, juggling multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Commitment to Audubon’s values and fostering inclusive, collaborative work environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of Audubon’s community building strategy in Arizona and New Mexico, prioritizing center operations, network engagement and community education.
• Provide strategic guidance to Audubon’s Southwest team, aligning actions across community building, policy and habitat delivery.
• Coordinate with milestone teams to align regional efforts with Flight Plan milestones.
• Hire, mentor and supervise education and engagement teams, including recruiting seasonal educators, volunteers and interns.
• Oversee programming at the Randall Davey and Rio Salado Audubon Centers in Santa Fe and Phoenix.
• Develop partnerships with community organizations, tribal entities, schools and other stakeholders; seek diverse audiences.
• Prepare information for funder reports and support fundraising activities.
• Travel locally and out-of-state; be able to work evenings and weekends; maintain a valid driver’s license.
