Job summary

Washington State Bar Association in Seattle seeks an Associate Director of Communications and Outreach to bridge strategic planning with day‑to‑day campaigns, guiding the department's messaging across website, social media, newsletters, and events.

Reporting to the Chief Communications and Outreach Officer, you will lead a team, manage budget, and engage with media, legal community, and WSBA leaders to elevate the organization's reputation and advance core initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English or marketing (or related discipline).
• 7 years in a management-level communications role with direct reports.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans with measurable results.
• Experience managing media relations and organizational communications.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage the Communications and Outreach Team, including budgeting, mentoring, and regular check-ins.
• Develop and implement department-wide communications plans across channels (website, social media, newsletters, blog).
• Coordinate with WSBA leaders, media, and external partners for high-visibility campaigns and events.
• Oversee crisis communications and media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
