A leading organization is seeking a Director of Communications & Events to oversee media strategies and event management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communication and education, along with the ability to manage multiple projects. DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS
(Executive Division)
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Serve as a member of the administrative staff of the Council on Occupational Education and
perform duties as designated by the Chief of Staff/Executive Division. Responsibilities include
performance and/or supervision of various functions necessary for the operation of the
Commission.
EXAMPLES OF WORK - The following examples are illustrative of the duties assigned to positions of
this class. No attempt is made to be exhaustive in this listing.
• Assist the Chief of Staff with its dealing with other accrediting organizations and governmental
agencies, as well as higher education and professional organizations.
• Coordinate, maintain and develop media (e.g., website, social media, press releases, articles, etc.)
to advance the branding and promotion of the Council.
• Serve as the producer for all video content available on the Council website.
• Creation, revision, and production of all Council publications/forms with the necessary assistance
of the executive, administrative, and support staff of the Commission.
• Create, design and finalize the content for the quarterly newsletter and other specialized
publications (e.g., Strategic Plan, Annual Reports, Legislative Guide, etc.).
• Provide leadership for the registration process (e.g. Event Squid) for all COE fee-based events
(e.g., Candidate Academy, Spring Accreditation Institute, Annual Conference).
• Manage the planning, development and logistics for all fee-based conferences (e.g., Spring
Accreditation Institute, Annual Conference) of the Council.
• Liaise with third-party partners to fulfill the requirements for achieving successful outcomes
related to the position.
• Draft letters for withdrawals and distribute letters, notifications and other Same-Time Notices.
• Create and maintain the branding guidelines for the Council
• Provide presentations, reports and requested information to the Commission.
• Perform other duties as may be appropriate for the position.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE APPLICANT
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the philosophy, goals, and Bylaws of the Council and its rules, regulations, and operating
procedures; of Department of Education Accreditation guidelines; of current educational/accreditation
issues, principles, practices, and organizations; project management and of marketing/communication
theory. Ability to create and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; multi-task in a
demanding multi-variable environment; to anticipate, analyze, and prepare needed plans and programs; to
present oral and written comments, opinions, and program interpretations clearly and concisely.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education required is a baccalaureate degree (master’s preferred) from an accredited institution of
higher learning with a major portion of the graduate work in a field related to functions of the
position in which employed. Experience (at least five years) in responsible educational capacities
which provided preparation relative to the functions of the position in which employed. Prior
involvement in some aspect of postsecondary career and technical education is desirable.
