Job Responsibilities:

The Director of Clinical Operations shall supervise all patient care activities to ensure compliance with current standards of accepted nursing and medical practice, including but not limited to:

• Implement personnel and employment policies to ensure only qualified personnel are hired. Verify licensure and/or certification prior to employment and annually, maintaining records to support competency.
• Implement hospice policies and procedures that establish and support quality patient care, cost control, and disciplinary mechanisms.
• Supervise employee health programs.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, promoting health and safety of employees, patients, and the community through complaint investigations, referrals for impaired personnel, and other methods.
• Provide orientation and in-service training to staff.
• Orient new healthcare personnel.
• Perform annual performance evaluations of healthcare staff.
• Ensure participation in ongoing education for all health professionals and aides.
• Ensure care provided promotes effective hospice services and patient safety.
• Enforce hospice policies.

These are major duties; incumbents may perform other job-related tasks as needed.

Education and Experience:

• The DCO must be a licensed registered nurse in Louisiana.
• At least three years of experience as a registered nurse, with at least one year in direct patient care in hospice, home health, or oncology.
• The DCO cannot be employed concurrently by other healthcare agencies.

Other Education/Experience and Training:

Annual continuing education in end-of-life care is required.

Other Qualifications:

• Not excluded from Medicare and Medicaid programs.
• Maintain eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid participation.
• Capable of providing emergency care.
• Maintain professional appearance.
• Willing to participate in disaster or evacuation situations.
• Participate in TB screening.
• Work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings with adequate lighting and ventilation.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and hazardous substances.
• Physical activity includes sitting, standing, bending, and moving intermittently.
• Subject to interruptions and encountering emotionally upset individuals.
• Potential hazards include falls, burns, infectious diseases, and toxic substances.
