Job summary

Whatnot is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead the Buyer Design team, shaping end-to-end experiences for millions of users navigating our live commerce platform. As a player-coach, you will mentor designers, set the design strategy, and partner with product, engineering, and research to convert vision into a roadmap.

You’ll oversee onboarding, discovery surfaces, live shopping experiences, and post-purchase flows, while maintaining high standards for craft and inclusive UX.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of product design experience.
• 3+ years leading design teams.
• Strong portfolio with interaction and visual design work.
• Experience shipping customer-facing products.
• Deep expertise in interaction design and systems thinking.
• Proven ability to design for search, discovery, personalization, taxonomy.
• Experience in ecommerce, marketplaces, or live shopping is a plus.
• Collaborates across product, business and user needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale a high-performing team of product designers across the buyer funnel.
• Define and drive the vision, strategy, and execution for the buyer experience with cross-functional partners.
• Partner with research, data, and product to inform design decisions with customer empathy.
• Shape intuitive systems across discovery, live shopping, and post-purchase experiences.
• Ensure experiences are accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly.
• Champion design quality and consistency while enabling speed and iteration.
• Mentor designers and nurture a strong design culture.
• Represent design in executive conversations and influence company priorities.
