The purpose of the Director of Business Development is to help the company achieve its sales goals by acquiring new, profitable contracts and by working with the Vice President of Construction to accomplish the overall goals of the company sales plan.
Preparing correspondence, copying, faxes, coordinating team meetings, and other general tasks related to Business Development administration.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of commonly used construction concepts, practices, and commercial construction/estimating experience is required. Must be able to read plans and construction documents. Specific experience in retail, medical, and institutional construction estimating and design-build experience is preferred. Working knowledge of Timberline, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
Four (4) year college or university degree program (preferably in engineering, construction management, architecture, business or related field); or five (5) to seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Continuing education in marketing, presentation skills, proposal writing, negotiating skills, and any other pertinent skill development courses. Field experience understanding how projects proceed (i.e. working knowledge of projects from start to finish).
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. Occasionally the employee is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally moderate to heavy (25 to 50 lbs). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
