Job summary

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations governing construction and repair of buildings.
• Strong background in public administration and management by objectives.
• Experience managing budgets, personnel actions, and staff development.
• Proven ability to lead professional, technical, and clerical teams in large departments.
• Familiarity with building inspections, permitting workflows, and code compliance processes.
• Ability to read blueprints, plans, and diagrams and ensure conformance with standards.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and approves large-scale building and development plans.
• Meets with builders, engineers, architects, and the public to resolve code concerns.
• Assigns and reviews non-routine items including budget, staffing, and office space planning.
• Oversees procurement, vacation, leave approvals, and memos for administrative activities.
• Speaks at civic meetings on building and zoning topics.
• Drafts ordinances, resolutions, and memos for the City Commission.
