The Director of the Center for Archaeological Investigations (CAI) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale provides overall leadership for a major research unit focused on cultural resource management. Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Anthropology with specialization in Bioarchaeology/Archaeology or closely related field.
• At least ten years of professional CRM archaeology experience, including five years as a Principal Investigator on federal/state projects.
• Experience securing external funding and managing archaeological curation per NAGPRA and 36 CFR Part 79.

Responsibilities

• Lead CAI as PI on CRM contracts and research projects.
• Oversee fiscal matters, compliance, and external partnerships.
• Direct CAI operations, staffing, and student training.
• Ensure timely reports, ethical stewardship, and client relations.
• Represent the University and CAI at professional meetings and events.
