Job summary

The Maine Department of Labor is seeking a strategic leader to serve as Director of Apprenticeship, shaping Maine’s apprenticeship system and expanding access to work-based learning across the state.

You will drive statewide initiatives, foster partnerships with employers, unions, and education providers, and oversee grants, contracts, and staff to deliver high-quality programs in compliance with federal and state requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation across multiple stakeholders.
• Experience supervising staff, managing budgets and resources, and administering grant-funded programs.
• Knowledge of federal grant requirements and performance reporting.

Responsibilities

• Grow apprenticeship opportunities across industries, regions, and communities.
• Advance incumbent worker upskilling by partnering with employers, unions, and worker organizations.
• Champion quality and compliance by ensuring programs meet laws, rules, and policies.
• Build partnerships with employers, unions, education and training providers, boards, and community organizations.
• Engage stakeholders to identify workforce needs and develop apprenticeship opportunities.
• Represent Maine’s Apprenticeship Program with federal partners and national organizations.
• Set strategy and direction with goals and implementation plans.
• Lead grant programs from application through reporting to funders.
• Develop RFAs and manage sub-recipient contracts.
• Lead and develop staff with a focus on high-quality service and results.
