About the Job

The Director of Application Engineering - BESS will be responsible for leading a team as the first technical contact for our BESS customers. This person will identify gaps and improvements around product functionalities, lead in technical contract negotiations, participate in customer meetings with key stakeholders, and manage customer expectations concerning product features. Other duties include training sales teams with information related to BESS technology and unique selling points and mentoring the application engineering team to support business goals.

This is a remote position, with preference for candidates in the Central time zone. Candidates must have grid scale energy storage technology experience to qualify for this role, no exceptions.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead application engineering team as the first level technical interface with the customer.
  • Develop technical and process documentation in support of project evaluation and deployments.
  • Evaluate integration context for battery systems (electrical, mechanical, permitting) and provide integration recommendations.
  • Act as the technical point of contact both internally and externally with customers to describe and articulate how Trina’s technology can/would be utilized in required applications.
  • Work with external counter-parties to identify the best technical fit of Trina’s battery systems.
  • Understand, define, and disseminate functional requirements from the market, coordinating with internal business team members.
  • Assist in permitting and design requirements to ensure the customer can apply for and secure necessary permitting and that the solution from Trina is technically the best and most reliable solution for the customer.
  • Technical solution sign off for customer offers.
  • Proactively seek to identify new business opportunities and storage applications.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for continuous improvement and growth of the team.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with relevant battery storage technologies.
  • Must have previous experience leading a team.
  • Solid understanding of Battery Systems, Power Conversion, and grid systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, design and solve complex engineering issues.
  • Project deployment experience, familiarity with permitting processes and drawings (e.g. SLD).
  • Strong technical knowledge of grid scale energy storage technology.
  • Team-oriented approach with an eagerness to continuously collaborate and support.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceptional problem solving and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and channel partners.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to travel 50%, with some international travel.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, education, skills, and experience. Additional discretionary sales incentive and company bonus may be available. Full-time employees are eligible for PTO, medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms.
