Job summary

Peraton in San Diego seeks a Director, Application Project Delivery to oversee a portfolio of 80–100 IT projects across County departments. You will ensure delivery on time, within scope and budget while fostering a client-focused delivery culture.

You will shape strategic direction, lead a high-performing team of architects, PMs, business analysts and developers, and partner with County leadership to drive continuous improvement and delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 16 years of professional experience.
• 8+ years of progressive project management experience, including 5+ years in a leadership or director level role.
• Proven success delivering large, complex, cross-functional projects.
• Experience managing project portfolios and leading high-performing teams.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future; U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (Green Card holders) is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Certifications: PMP or PfMP or PMI ACP.
• Demonstrated success with five or more years in senior management or director-level role overseeing cross-functional technology delivery teams.
• Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or ServiceNow.
• Strategic and tactical thinker with a daily focus on driving results.

Responsibilities

• Lead a delivery organization managing 80-100 concurrent IT projects across diverse County of San Diego departments.
• Align delivery strategies with organizational goals and contractual commitments in collaboration with executive leadership and client stakeholders.
• Drive operational efficiency, service excellence, and measurable business outcomes.
• Ensure consistent application of project management methodologies within a dynamic, evolving environment.
• Monitor key performance metrics to include schedule, cost, quality, and customer satisfaction while proactively addressing risks or deviations.
• Lead governance, reporting, and risk management activities to maintain transparency and compliance.
• Manage the financial health of the project delivery organization, including forecasting, budgeting, and margin optimization.
• Partner with HR and Finance to align staffing, training, and resource allocation with evolving program demands.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for County leadership regarding delivery performance, escalations, and continuous improvement.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and Peraton leadership.
• Support business development, transitions, and proposals by demonstrating delivery excellence and technical capability.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing team including architects, project managers, business analysts, and developers, fostering accountability and growth.
• Promote a culture of innovation, empowerment, and collaboration.
• Identify and develop emerging leaders to strengthen long-term organizational capability.
