Job summary

Asana seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the AI Platform organization, guiding four teams through their engineering managers. You will shape strategy, execution, and architecture to deliver reliable, cost-efficient AI foundations for enterprise workflows worldwide, enabling faster shipping of AI products.

The role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid schedule; in-office days are Mon, Tue, Thu, with some WFH options and Fridays depending on work.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• Proven track record in AI platforms, serving architectures, and evaluation systems.
• Experience optimizing infrastructure costs and unit economics.

Responsibilities

• Drive Strategy & Execution Across the AI Teammates Pillar and multi-year vision for the AI platform.
• Optimize AI infrastructure costs and improve cost-per-execution.
• Establish AI evaluation frameworks, performance standards, and measurable defaults.
• Lead and mentor managers across SF and NYC to build autonomous teams.
• Manage model strategy, frontier vs open-weight decisions, and provider relations.
• Architectural leadership and decision making for AI infrastructure.
• Drive cross-functional partnerships to tie platform investments to business performance.
