Job summary

Asana seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the AI Platform organization. You will guide four teams through engineering managers, shaping the strategy and architecture for retrieval, model serving, and evaluation systems across the enterprise.

You will mentor managers, align platform investments with business outcomes, and drive vendor relationships while ensuring reliability and cost efficiency at scale.

Qualifications

• 12 years of software engineering experience with 5 years of engineering leadership, including 2 years managing engineering managers.
• Proven track record in AI tools, serving architectures, inference providers, agentic frameworks, and scale evaluation systems.
• Experience optimizing infrastructure costs and unit economics at scale with concrete metrics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor managers and their teams across multiple cities, aligning strategy and execution.
• Drive multi-year vision and technical strategy for Asana's AI platform, including retrieval, context, model serving, and evaluation systems.
• Own cost-per-execution as a primary engineering metric, balancing performance with product margins at scale.
• Arbitrate build-vs-buy decisions and act as the trusted technical authority for AI infrastructure accuracy.
