Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director, AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to lead AI foundations, governance, and scalable AI infrastructure. You will oversee model training, evaluation, and observability, partnering with engineers, researchers, PMs, and compliance teams to ensure responsible AI practices across products.

You will guide a multi-disciplinary team, drive strategic initiatives, and foster mentorship while delivering high-impact AI platforms that power real-time customer experiences at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree plus at least 6 years of experience.
• At least 3 years of people leadership experience

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products and improve customer experiences.
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
• Invent and apply foundation model optimization techniques for production systems.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term AI roadmap at Capital One.
• Attract and retain top AI talent and foster professional development.
• Translate enterprise AI strategy into portfolio-level execution plans.
• Scale AI engineering practices with shared infrastructure and governance frameworks.
• Establish enterprise standards for Responsible AI and governance.
