Job summary

Vertex Education seeks a Director of Accounting Operations to design and lead a scalable, technology-enabled accounting model across national teams serving 400+ charter schools. You will drive close processes, controls, and audit readiness while shaping governance and cross-functional collaboration.

You will coach leaders, manage succession, and align people, data, and systems post-acquisitions to standardized standards and client service excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Progressive accounting leadership overseeing multi-entity or client-service operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, controls, and audits.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and integrating teams following acquisitions.
• CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
• Experience in charter school, education, nonprofit, or other multi-client accounting environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and rollout of a unified accounting operating model across VSS with governance and process accountability.
• Build and empower a national, high-performance accounting team across multiple entities.
• Drive monthly/ year-end close, reporting, controls, and audit excellence with GAAP compliance.
• Scale through standardization, automation, and AI-enabled delivery with onshore, offshore, and blended approaches.
• Lead accounting integration for acquisitions and client transitions with post-close playbooks and clear communication.
