Job summary

Cavender’s is seeking a Director of Accounting & Controls to lead accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, and ensure GAAP compliance across the organization. This role reports to the VP of Finance and partners with Operations, IT, and Audit to support strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA designation strongly preferred.
• 9+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in a leadership or controls-focused role.
• Deep understanding of US GAAP and internal control frameworks (COSO).
• Experience leading financial audits and managing ICFR or SOX compliance programs.
• Strong technical accounting skills, with the ability to assess complex accounting treatments.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP or similar) and strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of accounting operations, including general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial close processes.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce robust internal controls to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting.
• Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP.
• Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks through effective policy implementation and control assessments.
• Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with IT on system security, access controls, and the design of automated controls within ERP systems.
• Guide the accounting team in resolving complex accounting issues and improving workflow efficiency.
• Provide training, coaching, and development opportunities to accounting staff and managers.
• Support special projects such as system upgrades, process automation, and compliance initiatives.
