Job summary

Americas’ Community Counsel in Troy, Michigan seeks a Director of Accounting to lead the finance team and oversee all fiscal operations in line with GAAP and GAAS. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, manage payroll, and support the Board with strategic financial guidance.

This on-site, full-time role requires strong leadership and communication skills. Responsibilities include developing robust reporting systems, monitoring budgets, and ensuring timely tax payments and filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum five years of nonprofit accounting experience.
• Proficiency in financial statement preparation, payroll, budgeting, and tax compliance.
• Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
• Lead and supervise the accounting team, providing support and direction.
• Utilize accounting systems and software to manage financial data and reporting.
• Attend work on-site full-time and travel to designated locations as needed.
• Present financial reports to the Board of Directors at regular meetings.
• Manage cash flow and maintain financial liquidity.

This position is responsible for the oversight of all fiscal operations in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and for managing the Accounting Office team and related administrative functions.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
• Lead and supervise the accounting team, providing support and direction
• Utilize accounting systems and software to manage financial data and reporting
• Demonstrate exceptional communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
• Attend work on-site full-time and travel to designated locations as needed

Key Responsibilities:

• Align financial policies and procedures with organizational objectives
• Develop and maintain robust financial reporting systems to ensure compliance and transparency
• Analyze budgets and provide regular financial reviews for leadership
• Ensure all funding reports and submissions are accurate and submitted on time
• Review accounting systems and activities for compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Manage cash flow and maintain financial liquidity
• Monitor and verify expenditures and ensure timely tax payments and filings
• Oversee financial audits and ensure readiness and accuracy
• Reconcile payroll bank accounts and manage petty cash
• Present financial reports to the Board of Directors at regular meetings
• Provide strategic financial guidance to support organizational decision-making
• Perform any necessary accounting office functions and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
• Proven experience in financial statement preparation, payroll, bookkeeping, cash flow management, tax compliance, and budgeting
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central and Paycom preferred
